Child Protection in Emergency (CPiE)

Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) Project - (Jun 2025 to May 2026)

Open Hearts is implementing the Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) Project in Mandalay to ensure the safety, well-being, and resilience of children affected by crises and emergencies. The project focuses on addressing both immediate protection risks and long-term psychosocial support needs for children and their caregivers.

Key interventions under the CPiE project include:

  1. Child-friendly spaces where children can safely engage in structured play, learning, and recreational activities.
  2. Psychosocial support through individual and group counseling sessions for children and caregivers.
  3. Community awareness and capacity-building sessions to strengthen local child protection mechanisms, raise awareness on child rights, and promote positive parenting practices.
  4. Case management and referral services for vulnerable children, including those at risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

The project works closely with local authorities, community leaders, and families to ensure an inclusive, child-centered approach. By combining protection, psychosocial support, and community engagement, the CPiE project aims to reduce the risks faced by children during emergencies and support them in building resilience for a safer, healthier future.

Parenting Education and Shelter Project

Parenting Education and Shelter Project in Sagaing (July 2025 to Oct 2025)

Open Hearts is implementing the Parenting Education and Shelter Project in Sagaing to support families and children affected by displacement, emergencies, and ongoing vulnerabilities. The project aims to strengthen family resilience by promoting positive parenting practices while addressing urgent shelter needs for vulnerable households.

Through the Parenting Education component, Open Hearts provides caregivers with practical knowledge and skills on positive parenting, child development, child protection, and psychosocial well-being. The sessions encourage non-violent discipline, effective communication between parents and children, and the creation of safe, nurturing home environments. These activities are delivered through participatory and culturally appropriate approaches to ensure meaningful engagement and understanding among caregivers.

The Shelter component focuses on improving safe and dignified living conditions for families in need. This includes support for emergency shelter, minor shelter repairs, and the provision of essential shelter-related materials. The project prioritizes households with children, female-headed families, and other vulnerable groups to ensure equitable and inclusive assistance.

By integrating parenting education with shelter support, Open Hearts aims to enhance child well-being, reduce protection risks, and help families in Sagaing rebuild safer, more stable living environments while strengthening their capacity to care for and protect their children.

Child Protection and WASH activities

Nov'2025 to Jan'2026 (Mandalay Regions)

Open Hearts implements integrated Child Protection and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities to promote the safety, well-being, and dignity of children and communities, particularly those affected by emergencies and vulnerabilities.

Through our Child Protection activities, we work to create safe and protective environments for children by raising awareness on child rights, child safeguarding, and positive parenting practices. Our interventions include child-friendly awareness sessions, community engagement activities, and capacity-building initiatives that encourage meaningful participation of children and caregivers while strengthening community responsibility for child protection.

Our WASH activities focus on improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene practices. These include hygiene promotion sessions, distribution of essential hygiene items, and awareness-raising on safe water use and disease prevention. Special attention is given to the needs of children, women, and other vulnerable groups to ensure inclusive and dignified access to WASH services.

By integrating Child Protection and WASH approaches, Open Hearts aims to reduce protection risks, prevent health-related threats, and support communities in building safer, healthier, and more resilient environments for children to grow and thrive.
